Tips To Increase Confidence

We’re two months into the year. Do you still have the “new year, new you” mentality? If not, it’s time for you to learn how to build unshakeable confidence. Why? Because that’s going to be the fuel to make your I-can-do-this mentality last. Here are some good places to start:

  1. Chill out with the social media. To build your confidence, remember that the real magic happens in real life. If you stay connected to your phone and dive into social media all the time, your energy is going to be zapped. Addiction to social media is a big ol’ no-no when it comes to building your confidence. It’s all too easy to compare and despair when you are scrolling through those Instagram photos or nonstop checking out your facebook feed. It’s too much!
  1. Know your triggers. There are things you probably know about yourself that send you down the path of negativity. If you’re aware of those things, you can avoid them. Whatever the trigger is—not eating a clean diet, not getting enough sleep, etc.— you can make conscious choices to ensure you feel your best. This is amazing for reducing anxiety and building your confidence.
  1. Join Toastmasters (or the like). This is the year you’re ready to become a confident speaker. Don’t be afraid of using your voice; lean into it and learn it. There are organizations around the country (and the world) that are committed to helping people practice and get comfortable with public speaking. There’s something awesome about getting in front of others who are cheering you on and offering constructive advice.
  1. Dial down your inner critic. If you want to tap into unshakeable confidence, you have to dial down the voice of your inner critic. You know the one I’m talking about: the one that’s always telling you, “you’re not good enough” or “that didn’t work” or “why did you say this?” It’s part of life to have doubts, but if that critical voice is too loud, you won’t hear all the good stuff you’re doing. So, when you hear that voice of criticism, switch it off and focus on something you’re grateful for or something positive you did. Or literally look in the mirror and say, “Hey, I’m doing awesome.” Dial down the inner critic so you can turn up your awesomeness.
  1. Tackle small goals first. Tiny goals can lead to huge results. If you have a major achievement in mind, break it down into the smallest goal possible. That way, you can actually accomplish it and feel amazing. For example, let’s say you want to lose 20 pounds. I want you to lose one pound and do one activity that you can commit to, like a 7-minute workout. This will pump up your energy and build new, positive habits that will eventually get you to that big achievement.
