New Year Resolution: The Blind Spot

This is definitely the last blog post for the year and we would keep it short and fun as usual, the end of the year comes with various forms of review, from a corporate level to an individual standpoint with the aim of improving productivity.

Although sales might seem like the end game of almost every venture, however, it is the rate of productivity that makes a product or service viable.

Every organization is always asking this set of questions, how do we improve productivity?

How do we improve the efficiency of our process or how do we effectively use the resources available to us.

While there is a ton of materials and courses out there that would help in that, we could give you a bit of advice that would come in handy for the new year.

Let us take next year to be an opera concert, while we are all focusing on the performer, and assuming the overall success of the concerts depends on how talented and the level of expertise of the performers (Yes, it does count a lot), however, there are little tiny details that also contributes to the success of the concert, it is not just the quality of the instruments but also how tuned the instruments are. This is a blind spot that is often left unattended!

The skill of tunning a Grand Piano is as essential as either having a Grand Piano or knowing how to play it, it is a vital job and very few pianists do that work themselves.

Back to productivity, Who maintains your tools?

It is one thing to have the necessary equipment for yourselves or workers and it is another thing to fine-tune it to meet specific tasks and also keep it that way.

Perhaps it’s a computer with all the software that goes with it. Do you have a pro, someone who is up-to-date, skilled, innovative, and well-informed about your corporate bottom lines to make sure that they’re not just working fine but working in line with your goals? Or are you doing it yourself, muddling and improvising your way through various tasks? shuffling between your primary task and your blind spots!

Or perhaps it’s not software or the hardware that needs tuning. Perhaps it’s our attitude, our approach to work, the way we pay attention to details and deal with possibilities …

If we have untuned equipment,  how should we expect maximized productivities?

It is going to be a great year, one of the things you don’t want to do is not to get your tools fine-tuned.  That being said, listen to Andrea Bocelli perform Brucia La Terra in a live opera concert,  it was magic, he was classic and yes, those strings were well-tuned too.
